Hi Guys,

If i only populate the Gigabyte Z77D3H pci-e x16 (long blue port) slot with a Sapphire 7850 2GB graphics card then the port would run at x16.

With the 7850 graphics card installed, What would happen if either pci-e x1_1 , pci-e x1_2 or pci-e x1_3 (Short white ports) were populated with a SSD pci-e drive. Would the pci-e x16 port where the 7850 graphics cards installed in, slow down to x8?

If so, does this mean the 7850 graphics card would be restricted in terms of higher end performance

Please advise, thanks

I have an Asrock Z77, and what it does is that it changes both to x8 when you add a second card. I wouldn't think it would be much different than that. PCIe 1x slot won't impact the 16x slots at all. Happy Gaming :)

hi, will be using i5 3570k. Im only going to be using the blue port labelled pci-e x16 for one graphics card and a short white pci-e x1 port for the pci-e SSD drive.

Im sure it will be fine though im asking if putting a card into the pci-e x1 port will impact the pci-e x16 port

To my knowledge if you put something in the PCIe 1x slots everything should be fine. You run into an issue when the other PCIe 16x slot is used. I suggest reading the manual more to find out.

This means (AFAIK) that as long as you use the PCIe 1x slots your PCIe 16x slot will stay at 3.0 speeds. You only run into issues when you put something in the other 16xslot. The manual will confirm.
