My Bulldozer isn't working properly :(

Hi friends

This is me and i am here with my very strange problem.
I had AMD ATHLON II x4 635 and i was using it with my DDR-2 2GB ram and i was sort of satisfied with that. When i heard that AMD has his latest series of cpu's is out i instantly went to the market and bought this bulldozer fx4100 and kept it in my cupboard for future use.
Just yesterday i thought maybe this is the time when i should start using it. Since i don't have any hi fi sort of system with me i am kind of happy with this. and even athlon 2 x4 was also able to fulfill my basic requirements. Now here's the problem. When i had this installed and everything was ready i sort of thought of installing my good ole os win xp sp3 on my system and more than thrice it went off i mean it just stopped and restarted automatically(weird huh?) then somehow i managed to install my xp on it and i thought maybe i am through with this but to my shock no, i wasnt through. now i had another problem to face and that was while installing my mobo's drivers it again went off for more than 5times Man i was like wtf
Somehow i managed to get that done also but now another problem rose up while playing game it again restarted for more than 5 or 6times which mad me go crazy. now here's the deal is it my cpu which has gone wrong? or my mobo(its brand new) or my ram? please tell me where the hell is this problem hiding? i updated my bios also i mean my mobo's ofcourse and did everything which is done by someone who has this basic knowledge of troubleshooting but still this problem persists. now let me elaborate a bit more. while playing fear3 i am not at all getting any restarts i am playing it on ultra settings with everything high and believe me no restarts and easily getting 60+ frames and now on the other hand while playing skyrim(ultra settings) i am getting 40-60+ frames but after spending 15 or more minutes system shuts down automatically. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY???? and to make it run again i need to turn off the ups which i have and have to wait for more than 10-15secs then only i am able to start it. PLEASE HELP.

Check your heatsink make sure you are not overheating. If the heatsink on the CPU is not making good contact would cause your system to shut down so it dont fry itself.

There is no way i can overheat my system.
My cpu runs pretty cool nothing more than 50 degrees and my gpu never goes beyond 69 degrees. now tell me where is the fault.

If it won't let you turn itself back on immediately, that's very likely a thermal shutdown. It won't let you turn it back on because it is waiting for the temps to drop.

I have my Athlon with me i haven't sold it yet i mean i have buyers but i am just not letting it go after seeing the situation. and i would not like to roll back to my old system since i had made up my mind to use it. just for this stupid processor i gave up on 1100T(OEM) and now see i ended up here with sort of nothing

I am not arguing with you here but it's kinda unbelievable that within 10-15secs the temp would go low.

With a heatsink attached, it should cool down very quickly. I would suspect you have SOME cooling, just not nearly enough.

I don't know as far as i know these fx cpus i guess they're cooler than my old athlon ii x4 635 processor its only the mobo and the cpu only which i have changed oops ex cuse me and my ram too and one more thing if its a heating problem while playing skyrim then why not with fear 3??? while posting this msg i was playing fear 3 and just now stopped playing it. dont you think thats a little weird??

What were you using and what did you upgrade to in your first post you said ddr2 what make is the m/b ?

This is what i used to have :- Athlon II x4 635 2.9ghz(stock) ddr-2 2gb(i still have these but i am not using it anymore)

and this what i have now :- Bulldozer Fx 4100 x4 3.6ghz(stock) ddr-5 4gb

i haven't changed my gpu which is 4870 1gb

Mobo: MSI 760GM P21

Would have to agree with the others sounds like a overheating issue. Did u use the cpu cooler that came with the fx 4100? or reuse the one from the athlon? If u reused, u will need to reapply thermal paste, or use the reapplied paste that came with the fx 4100 cooler and use that cooler

Did i see that u got rid of an x6 1100t? or list the option to get one?

1100t??? nope never had one. well the fan and the heatsink which came with my bulldozer is better than the one which i had gotten with my athlon.

EDIT: I need to really stop speed reading

See if you can run some monitoring apps like specy on the side with a windowed skyrim and see what your temps are (it should show gpu, cpu and mb all on the main page)

Well i just tried playing this game on windowed mode and guess what it didn't shut my computer this time. and i had this gpuz running in the background and the maximum temp. which i had was 48 degrees(celcius)

but i guess if i am to play it fullscreen it will shut down again. let me check again and let you know.

^ hmm windowed probably places a lot more stress on the parts or maybe a driver fault?

maybe have gouz in background, hop into skyrim for 5-10 min and then see temps before it crahses (since crashing occurs 15ish min ine) running coreyemp can show cpu temps as well

Okay i will do that as well, but at the moment i am at work let me get back home first. :-/

You DID update to the latest BIOS, right? The default BIOS for that motherboard doesn't support BD...

The thermal paste is pre-applied to the stock cooler.

New Problem:- I just removed my 4870 and inserted my another gpu ( MSI R5830 twin forzr ii) but here again i am facing problem the whole screen's got green tint, i mean white isn't white anymore its green tinted screen now.

i tried pulling it out and putting it back to the slot but nothing seems to work.

^ Well, I think we found the problem then. You're going to need some thermal paste.

Yeah you really need that thermal paste between the CPU and the heat sink.

Anything here will do if you're planning to OC (and OC would need a aftermarket cooler)
