I had a suggestion saying i should get an i5-3350P Ivy Bridge 3.1GHz, and was wondering if its worth the price. Are there any better i5s for a good price? And is the phenom 2 965 BE another option. Do not need integrated graphics, and don't plan on OCing. Thank you. ( no real preference between AMD & Intel )

3350P is a base model i5. No Graphics (what the P means). For $175 its worth the price. But for serious gameplay you'll want to spend $60 more for a 3570K. Stay intel for now. The top of the line FX vishera eight core is equivilent to a mid to high range i5.

The optimal processor for you sounds like the i5 3570, not the 3570K. The K just means it is overclockable for about $15 more. The 3570 is $215, another viable option is the 3350P, at $180. It is similar to the 3570 just less performance.

What is the closest AMD CPU to the 3570k?
