Wired through the router slower than directly to modem?

Hi, was wondering if i go wired but through the router is it still being effected by the extra step or is that only going to effect wireless? asking because my wife is wireless but barely gets on, so if im about to do something intensive online would it be worth bypassing the router and plugging straight into the modem? thanks.

a router should not really effect the speed if you only have two or three devices.

what router are you using?

make sure to reboot the modem when switching back and forth connecting between router and PC to it.

there will only be 2 active at the same time at the most, one will be wired and one will be wireless.
Also in the past i had nat issues for my xbox and ps3 but that was with a cisco router, and i was wireless and ill be playing them wired now but didnt know if the nat was still a potential issue.
