Screen Ripples (560ti)

I am experiencing "screen tearing" in some of my games that I am playing lately including BF3, MW3. I am using a EVGA 560ti, and I am having to turn on Vsync in order to enjoy smooth gameplay. Whats the deal?

That's what Vsync does. It smoothens the gameplay at the cost of a few fps.
