The choice before me is whether to get dual AMD HD 7970M cards or dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M cards for a new gaming laptop.

I am looking at buying the laptop in the next few weeks.

I plan to use it for everything. Gaming is likely to be the most intensive thing.

I want it to be able to run just about any current games, ideally at high, if not ultra.

I want it to be able to run games two years from now at high settings.

I will probably have 16 GB of RAM.

The monitor specs are as follows: 18.4 inch (467.36 mm) WLED WideFHD (1080p) display (1920 X 1080).

I may want to run it on an external monitor, such as the Asus 25.5" with a native resolution of 1920x1200.

There is no cost difference from the laptop vendor.

I think crossfire scaling is better, although I am not sure if this extends to the mobile versions

Actually 1 7970 gives about 90% performance of the GTX680M, at a much cheaper price (i think its something like half the cost of a 680M), so IMO I would go with the dual 7970's.

I would go with the dual 7970's, because you stated you will use your laptop for everything, so I'm thinking you might use it for some other GPU intensive applications, in which the 7k series would do better.
