Hello,

I need some useful advice. I had an worn out 2a ghz 512/400 Pentium 4 Processor with the 478 socket. I got an 3.2 ghz 1M/800 Pentium 4 with a 478 socket to replace and upgrade it.

However when I install the new one, nothing happens, the power comes on, but wont boot, no Bios comes up nothing.

I am using an sis 645 motherboard - P4S Dragon Ultra, from Soyo. Any ideas how I can get this to work?

Check to see if there is an updated Bios for support for the Prescott (1MB of cache and 90 nm manufacturing processor). Most of the earlier P4 boards that supported Northwood (512MB and 130nm) may not have supported the later Prescott version of the Intel® Pentium® 4 processors. So if there is not a Bios update for the board you are not going to be able to use that processor on that board.

I have been looking for a Bios update, but Soyo is no longer online. Most links are dead or require me to buy a download manager program. All I need is the updated driver for the bios. I know there is one, I just need to find a free ware link. Any ideas of where I can find one?

Here is the information for the board and bios:

Phoenix-Award
BIOS Date: April 10th, 2002
BIOS ID: 04/10/2002-SiS-645-6A6IXS2AC-00
BIOS OEM: P4SX-2BA3 - 6.00 PG
Chipset: SiS 645 rev 2
SuperIO: ITE 8705/SiS 950 rev 2 at port 002E
Manufacturer: Unknown
Motherboard: SiS-645

BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 4/10/2002

The Mother board is the Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra.

My understanding is that it will work if the FSB is set at 800hz, it is currently set at 512 for the slower cpu, but the Bios boots so fast it is hard to catch it in time to open it, will continue playing with it, but I think I am stuck until I find a compatible Bios update. So If you know a reliable link please let me know - and thank you.
