CPU wise i know am3+ is backwards compatible with am3, especially since I have this cpu and mobo combo myself, and thanks for the input guys.

It'll work fine. If I were you though I'd try and squeeze an Intel platform in there instead. An Intel i3-3240 is leaps and bounds ahead of a Phenom II x4 965

Thanks I know Intel is great but, for this build a quad core AMD processor will do good as it will be mainly for gaming and a bit of recording.

  8. Looks good except you don't need both different sets of ram.

A Phenom II x4 965 is $99 on Newegg, the i3-3240 is $149. It may only be a dual core but it will stomp the 965 across the board. I would personally spend the extra $100 for a far more future proof machine.

That's just my two coppers though, good luck!

I agree but my friend wanted 16GB and this was the easiest way to go for it and he's alright with it. Personally 8GB is the most I think is needed.
