So, I am building a $1,200 gaming PC: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jAWD

should I upgrade to an i7 CPU? I was told with the video card I currently selected I woudln't use it to it's fullest potential on an i5. Let me know if it is worth upgrading to the i7.

Also, if there are any other things you would change with the build please let me know what and why.

THANKS!

The i7 3770K is about $95 more than the i5 3570K. $95 is not CRAZY amounts of money. The i7 3770 is about $75 more than the i5 3570K.

The difference between the two is 1) L3 cache 2) Price 3) Hyper-threading. Both are high end CPUs and in terms of performance the i7-3770k is far better. The i7-3570K doesn't support hyper-threading and has a 6MB L3 cache compared to 8MB. That i5 still sits above many others though like the i5-2500K and AMD eight core FX-8100.

I'd say the i5 build sounds great for the price. Go for it. Saves you money for other things. Maybe spend an extra $12 on better 1600 RAM. Not necessary though.

Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 cas lat:8 $52

sorry i5-3570k* :p I wouldn't waste your money between the two. If you wanted better I'd say go with an i7-3820 but that'll cost you money with LGA2011. Albeit, you'd be in a better position for upgrading later.
