Yes, the i3s are a tier higher than the Pentiums of the same generation, though without you giving actual model numbers I can only speak in vague generalities. If you're comparing a Pentium from the most recent generation to an i3 from three years ago, then things may be different.

Not necessarily. Depending on your workload, and the models you are considering, the Pentium Dual Core may be better. Remember that the i3 lacks hyperthreading. But for typical user workloads, I would say the i3 is likely 'better'.

unless there are certian i3 chips that don't then you are incorrect. i have an i3-330m that has hyperthreading tech

Ah right, I was thinking i5.

I know this post is old and the conversation ended a long time ago i was searching for specific information and i came across this but the i3's do have HTT. LOL if you look at every single one of those i3 it SPECIFICALLY says 2 cores 4 threads. Now if it just said 2 cores and 2 threads you would be right buuuut, your not lol. So just to top this one off Willard, you were in the wrong. the i3 does support HTT (Hyper Threading Technology) Mobile and Desktop. My Intel i7 5820K shows in specs 6 cores 12 threads is an example.

Minato, willard said they support hyperthreading, and you're saying he says they don't? It was onichikun who said they don't.

Probably need to step back a second there. Willard was replying to my post where I erroneously stated that the i3 didn't have HTT, which I corrected myself on (I was thinking i5).
