I am looking to get one of the new Ivy Bridge i3s. I'm just curious, how much longer will it be effective? Say the next 2 or 3 years? Or not even a year? Thanks in advance!

Save a few bucks and get a Pentium G21xx.

Throw out a little extra money and go for intel i5 3570k. if you can go for that budget.
