I run everything at 2560x1600 resolution, which would be the better card, they are both approx the same price.

Thanks

you cant really buy 7970 reference models(hence one of the reasons why its loud). I know that the toxic 7970/vapor-x sapphire 7970 is loud, I dont know much about the audibility of the Gigabyte, Visiontek or xfx 7970 ghz's

Uh... that's only with reference coolers. if you buy one with a 3rd party cooler, (Sapphire vapor-x, asus direct CU, etc...) it's a lot quieter.

And if you're buying the GTX 670, you might as well as get the 4 GB version (i think it's around the same price as the 7970 ghz edition) or the EVGA GTX 670 FTW (same price as normal GTX 670) which is running on a GTX 680 board and it's super quiet.

Is the EVGA GTX 670 FTW better than the Superclocked Edition ?

the cards in OC are almost the same to some extent actually. 670 in OC goes near a 680, a 7970 ghz at stock is essentially a 680 at a lower price. both can still overclock more than their factory overclocks so in essence, the only difference between the two is what other benefits and what resolution you are playing. in the resolution OP states, the 7970 has a better standing overall. technically at that resolution, its possible for a 7950 to beat a 670 because of how much 2560x1600 favors AMD
