More about 6990
  1. Many crossfire set ups are back to back cards. The only issue I see is that you'll be shoving the GPU down on to the cables and connectors and might put some stress on them. And temps will go up quite a bit, I'd guess 10-20c on the top card.

I whole heated agree with the rep. I wouldnt do it. way too close for comfort to the point that they are essentially touching eachother. as a dual card, it will heat up even quicker.

You mean you disagree ;). On the whole I wouldn't try it either.

read the line wrong, yeah, disagree
  5. ^+1 Would be fine if it weren't on the cables and it were a lower-power card.
  6. can i add another card? like 7970 because i might try eyefinity on 3 screens but i want good fps and settings?

You'd run in to the same problem, a 7970 is a 2 slot GPU. A 6990 isn't going to hurt for most games at high (not ultra) settings on eyefinity.
  8. if you are going to make a sli/crossfire upgrade from the 6990. the only real choices would be a 690 or an upcoming 7990, which will cost a fortune.
  9. You could always W/c them, allowing a little more flexibility, better temps and avoiding the cable bashing issue,
I have two modded W/c tripleslot cards next to each other and the only 'issue' I have is the bottom card hits my usb 3.0 front panel header,
there are ways round everything, its what you are prepared to pay and how much effort you are willing to put into it
