[CPU & Others] In need of opinion/suggestion for upgrades

First off, here's my current parts/specs:

Motherboard: MSI x58 Platinum SLI
Ram: 12gb DDR3
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 rev D0
GPU: GTX 670
PSU: Corsair 850 TX
Case: Antec Twelve Hundred

Now i'm not really sure where i'm suppose to post this topic but i'm submitting this to Motherboards category since what i want to ask is an opinion or suggestion for motherboard.

I'm upgrading my chip to I7 3770k and also planning to grab another GTX 670 to SLI but my problem is, with this current motherboard it doesn't give me any space at all for the 2nd card.

What is a good quality and recommended motherboard out there? Could anyone give me the names/models for me to check the reviews and compare?

Also, will i need a liquid cooler for these upgrades? My PC is currently installed with Hyper 212 evo cooler and i'm worried if my Tower case has enough room for liquid cooler if i'm gonna be needing it.

Thank you in advance.

First of the 3770K is lga 1155 and any Z77 board that supports dual cards would do. With your rig though I would wait until this summer when Haswell comes out. Your current board has two slots and can easily run two cards unless you have used both PCI slots underneath the second slot.
  2. Oh wow, thanks for pointing that out, didn't know anything about lga 1155 and z77. So i guess that mean's buying 3770k now will not work with my current mobo.

Haswell going to be expensive i bet, i think for now 3770k is good for several years. Also, my single graphics card covers both PCI slots, so there's no way for me to install the 2nd one as the card itself is really fat. That's why i'm looking for a new motherboard. I guess i gotta look up a good z77 boards. Thanks for that term!

  4. All ATX boards will have the same slot spacing that is allow 2 x PCIe X16 3 slot cards and blank of almost all additional slots.
  5. Ohh you are right! It was that black magic card that was blocking it!
I'm going to have to move it... Gonna have to rearrange the wires.

    Thank you!
  6. Yep drop that down a slot and you will have space.
