Is a FX 4170 good for crossfire?

I'm thinking of getting a second Radeon 7950 to set up a crossfire system and i was worried that might bottleneck my cpu or cause other problems, is a 4170 ok for this or do i need something beefier like a 6300 or 8350?

It will be bottleneck badly with dual gpu due to poor single threated performance of fx 4170.

Of course lol the 8350 can compare to a i5 3570k, but u still have the lower single thread performance, but slightly better than the 4170.

The FX 4170 actually has pretty good single threaded performance. The thing it isn't good at is multithreaded performance.

I suggest buying another HD 7950 now and upgrading the CPU later.

That will be even worse. The 41XX Bulldozers will be a huge bottleneck on highend video cards like last generation 6950/6970, GTX 570/580's and this generation's high-end video cards like the 7950/7970 and GTX 670/680. That is backed up by lots of benchmarks that show video card bottlenecks.

Yea I agree. The 41xx series is pretty bad in single threaded applications/games compared to intel's equivalent. Tom's been saying that thru benchmarks for a while now. It would be better to get an 8350 and upgrade the gpu at a different time. The 8350 is a quite capable cpu, a little better than the 3570k at heavily threaded apps and a little worse and single ones.

your already being bottlenecked by that cpu with a single 7950. upgrading cpu to an i5 will see you more performance overall than a second 7950. A single 7950 should max anything at 1080p with a good cpu.
