Do I have to take out the motherboard to install a new heatsink?

I'm planning to change my stock intel heatsink to a coolermaster t4, my motherboard is an asrock z77 4.

  1. That depends on your case. Some cases have an opening behind the cpu to allow mounting a backplate for a cpu cooler. If your case doesn't have that, you'll need to take the motherboard out of the case first.
