Hi there, Hoping to get some help on a couple of upgrades I am considering for my 4 yr old desktop, homebuilt machine. I dont know much about this so here goes: My machine has a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P mobu, a core duo 3.o GHZ E8400, 8GB RAM , a Geforce 9800GT GPU, and a 700w power supply. All of this in a Raidmax dirk-tooth ( pretty big) case. I'd like to keep this thing going for a couple more years so what do you think about upgrading to a core quad chip ? and maybe a better GPU / OR how about running two 9800gt's ? ( I think the mobu can handle this ) . I ma running Windows 7 home premium ( 64 bit) Thanks in advance !

Upgrading to anything less than a Q9300 won't be much of a performance boost. Ram is okay. Do not buy the 9800GT's, invest in a single GTX660

if your hard drives and cd-rom drives are sata. i would keep them and move them into a new build.
if your case is atx you can reuse it. myself i get a
if you can try and donate your old rig for a tax right off or use it as a home storage unit. toss in a few hard drives or use it as a word and web for the kids/wife. see if the local senior center could use it. anything you do to your old rig is just tossing money to the wind. I had an older 775 system and i can tell you the sb/ib cpu blow the 775 out of the water. any build done today with good parts should last you a few years without any issues. if you think you want more cpu power look into a locked i5 or the i3 cpus.
