my components are
current cpu: AMD Phenom ll X2 550
current motherboard: Gigabyte Technology. model is GA-MA770T-UD3P
current gpu: ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series. what i want to upgrade to is a gtx 670

will the current parts i have now handle the gtx 670? and how much of an improvement would i get with it?

I don't recommend you doing this. Your cpu will severely bottleneck your gtx 670. You would indeed a large improvement, but you will be wasting a lot of money. I recommend that you get something cheaper like a nvidia 650ti or a radeon 7850.

Also what power supply are you using? You need to make sure its strong enough to power these cards.

An alternative would be to just build a new pc since the gtx 670 is around $350 by itself.
You can build a decent gaming computer for maybe $500 - 600 if you salvage some parts from your old computer.
