Personal Proxy via remote PC? Tags: Tom's Hardware Proxy Servers Networking Last response: October 11, 2011 6:58 AM in Networking Share masterbunny5 October 4, 2011 8:11:34 PM Tom's Hardware, I would like to setup a personal proxy server. The reasoning behind this is basically to ensure a secure proxy rather than relying on free (and most likely foreign) servers. I'm not sure what the difference between SOCKS 4 and 5 are, nor do I know if there are other proxy types that may be better for certain applications. Basically, I am looking for a process to follow with which I can set up a personal computer as a proxy with little to no 3rd party software (preferably none). I apologize for my lack of knowledge regarding proxies. If you need any additional information, I will be more than willing to provide it. There are many proxy server softwares, you can try CCProxy and Wingate. Here's a quick start for CCProxy: http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/quick_start.htm.
