Assuming your PSU is OK, if your BIOS doesn't detect your HDD you either have a bad MB, or a bad cable, or a bad HDD. I would try switching MB SATA ports first, then switch to a KNOWN good cable and finally a KNOWN good HDD. If all that fails, only the MB is left to be bad. There's really nothing else you can do to troubleshoot outside of a lab environment except to replace components until you find the problem.
