Recognition for hard drive

Hello, I changed the hard drive in my dell, and it would not boot. I then replaced the former hard drive, only to have it say the same thing. Now I do not have acces to my computer. Any help on how to get it back to running again?

Did you image your Windows installation to the new hard drive? Or do you plan on installing Windows clean onto the new drive (and then moving your information from backup)?
