Restart Problem

So I've recently reformatted & rewired my brother's pc after buying a crucial m4 ssd.

Here's the problem, his pc now randomly blacks out. The monitor will turn black, but the pc is still on.

He can still hear the music from the pc, but the monitor is black, then after a couple of minutes the music stops abruptly then the

system restarts on its own. One thing about this problem is that it rarely happens, We've done the refresh a week ago and it has only happened twice to date.

It doesn't really happen on load. The first time it happened was when watching a youtube video, the second it was when he was fixing itunes stuff.

So it's not really about the load he's on. We really can't troubleshoot it if we can't anticipate when It'll happen. His pc used to have really bad temps (like 65-70C Idle)

but after fixing the air flow and buying a H60, we managed to pull down the temps to 35C Idle. So this isn't a heat issue.

We haven't done any OCing, everything in the bios is running default.

Can somebody help me with this? Thanks in advanced!

PS. We're also looking for room for improvements with this build, so suggestions for future upgrades are very welcome.

My brother's build:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz
Cooler: Corsair H60 Closed-Loop Water Cooling
Motherboard: Gigabyte 880GM-UD2H mATX (No Sata 3, No Usb 3.0)
Memory: 2x G.Skill RipjawsX CL9 1600MHz 4GB (Ram sticks not overclocked, so it's still running at 1333MHz)
2x Generic Ram Sticks 1333MHz 2GB (Carried over from the older build)
Graphics: Sapphire HD 5770 VaporX
Power Supply: Cougar CMX 700W
Storage: Crucial M4 128gb
Western Digital Blue 1Tb

yep sorry for the late reply just saw the post try these steps(i give them to everyone and sometimes it help... sorry if i say something you already tried)

Check your psu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWXgQSokF4

reset your cmos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdp_L5IxaNI

update your bios
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdp_L5IxaNI

Check your memory
http://www.memtest.org/

run burnin test to check for hardware errors(still run memtest this does not test it theroly)
http://www.passmark.com/download/bit_download.htm

check if all your drivers are updated

if all else fails use another psu if you have one, use another gpu, and try different ram in different slots...

Really hope this helps! :D

get the bios updated because i had an issue similar to this(it just froze nothing would work not even ctrl alt delete) and i updated it and it just... stopped! :D

also if you still can i would recommend returning the 5770 and instead getting this
http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-11201-00-20G-Radeon-PCI-Express-Graphics/dp/B00782U10W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350174949&sr=8-1&keywords=hd+7770

If not that is fine but try to save up some and also try overlocking a little bit with the cpu just too see how it handles, the water cooling will help but dont push it too far, i mean no need to kill it just slowly add to it here is a video on how to OC the fx-8120 but i think it applys to that chip as well as any others
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvS1T1qAW1k
I followed this and was able to get my 3.1ghz 8120 to 4.5(but dont do this on that card may not be able to handle it the 8120 was "built to overclock" :p)

also if you really want to upgrade in the future i recommend getting this card
http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-DL-DVI-I-SL-DVI-D-PCI-Express-100312-3L/dp/B005X64QAG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1350175140&sr=8-2&keywords=hd+7850+sapphire

also what case do you use?

it is a very nice card and i would really recommend it, I run off a gtx 670 but my friend runs off that and can max out bf3

one last tip get 8gbs of ram just get another set of the two you have

It's on a mid-tower thermal master case (old model) not sure of the exact model though.

I have 12 GBs of Memory. 8 (4x2 G.Skill RipjawsX 1600MHz) + 4 (2x2 Generic 1333MHz)

Thanks for the detailed reply, I will look up on all of your suggestions.

I'll get right back as soon as I finish all the tests.

Yeah but my board only uses the 1600MHz speeds when OC'ed (which I didn't do), so it's supposed to run them at 1333Mhz right?
