Which AMD Radeon 7870?

Hey,
I need to choose a 7870 -
I want the QUIETEST Card of them all :P.
Cheaper is better, good customer support, warranty, RELIABILITY and performance
I would rather go with a quieter card than buying one that is noisey...

Options are in poll.

Please comment and tell me why chose any of the cards

Thanks in advance :)

More about which radeon 7870
  1. MSi is the choice. It will satisfy all your needs (considering that you're getting HD 7870, not the HD 7950 or HD 7970. Best HD 7950 would be from Sapphire, best HD 7970 would be from (yet again) MSi, the "R7970 Lighting").

DirectCU is somewhat quiet too, but...seriously, just look at it...ewww...

Whatever you do - DO NOT get XFX Ghost, it's absolute crap.

Crappy cooling system (gets quite hot even during just medium loads), gets very loud over time (crappy bearings in the fans), overpriced, high chance of getting defective copy with whiny drossels.
  4. I had an XFX DD Black Edition 7970 and really liked it...

That said, I'd recommend the Hawk - best all around card there.

What about the double dissapation ones?

Basically the same crap, but with other fans (which, I must admit, actually work a bit...unlike that Ghost trash. They are actually pretty much same fans, but with little fixes here and there), a little factory OverClock and an ultra-ugly girlie-like red strip on the side.

Probably RMA'd it, or changed it to GODLIKE HD 7970 from Sapphire. I would not be surprised any bit at all.

Bought a XFX DD Black Edition 7970 @ launch day (was one of the lucky ones to get it within the first 5 minutes it was listed on newegg :bounce:)

Later on picked up a Lightning card to put it into crossfire, but I could never get the two cards to play nicely together and had all sorts of weird problems, so I sold the XFX and picked up a second Lightning.

    Sapphire.
  20. The problem was MSI Afterburner, not the cards themselves. Afterburner couldn't figure out what to do with the cards having different BIOSes, and couldn't set clocks or read sensors correctly on whichever card was GPU2 with any consistency. Being an XFX hater just makes you look silly. :non:

Max OCs for the cards I've had.
The XFX overclocked to 1210/1730 on 1.21 vcore and stock (1.60) vmem
One of my Lightnings will do 1240/1830 on 1.25 vcore 1.64 vmem
The oher lightning does 1205/1800 on 1.23 vcore 1.63 vmem

Yeah he's pretty much just talking hater nonsense and doesn't know what he's talking about. He probably had a bad experience once and became a hater.

Not all Sapphire's have blue PCBs - some of their nicer models have black PCBs and/or backplates.

    Being an XFX hater

I never said that ALL they do is bad. I actually quite like their 6970s, but their 7870s are absolute garbage.
Of course it's only my IMHO based on the personal experience of usage, you don't have to take it that close to heart, but I'll never bash anything that I haven't tried by myself. I had personal bad experiences with XFX's 78-- series, so I'm only considering that as a defining point, when I recommend something to someone.

The hell? Where did I said it? I just didn't recommend DirectCU personally, but I never said anywhere that it's bad...are you blind?

    BigMack70 said:
and doesn't know what he's talking about

That actually applies to you, not me. Because you accuse people of something, without thoroughly reading what they said, first.
  26. This is not sound logic:

    1. I had a bad experience with product 'X'
    2. Therefore the product 'X' is horrible

That is hater logic. Better logic would be to say "I had a bad experience with 'x' and so I personally wouldn't buy from them again."

Every company releases cards that wind up being faulty. That's what RMAs and warranties are for (and by the way, XFX has some of the best warranty support out there).

If I had several bad experiences in a row (which I did), with the same product, I have absolute right to call it crap.
And it's absolutely rightful to not recommend it to other people, to even warn them to keep away from those, so that people won't waste their time/money/nerves on such bad things. It's actually a very simple consumer logic, I really don't get why you got so heavily pissed about my opinion...are you the dedicated XFX fanboy that rages on any person that won't like the product you like and bases his/her opinion on the personal bad experience of the usage?
  28. :hello: hey guys! dont you think we are going a LITTLE OFF TOPIC? :pfff:
  29. timarp000 said:

Get MSi. If you can't, get Sapphire. If you can't get that either, then get ASUS.
But I highly advise you to stay away from XFX 7870 no matter what.
That's my last word on it. It's for you to decide, after all.

If you wish to ask me something else, send me a PM.

    Good bye.
  30. only a little.
