New computer moniter problems?

Just got my new computer and i'm having some problems with the display, I use to run my old computer through my 42" TV through VGA, so I plug my new computer in the same way and get no display... I see that where the graphics card is that there is a HDMI so I put that in and the display comes up. Does this mean I have to run it through HDMI?

Why do you want to run it through VGA, if you can get the better picture quality through HDMI?

So it might be a problem with your resolution settings? The resolution should be set to the physical resolution of your TV. That could also be the reason, why it didn't work with VGA. If the actual resolution is not supported by your TV, it will not show anything.
