Well, I had a major blunder on my part that fried one of my systems and made it unusable. After some long hours spent checking every component, I concluded the motherboard, RAM and PSU are all history That leaves me with the case, CPU, GPU, and SSD to work with. Speicfically:
Cooler Master 343 mATX case
Athlon II X3 455 CPU
Asus HD 6670 GPU
Intel 330 120gb SSD
I would like to use the case and spare parts to start a HTPC build for movies and music. I don't need anything such as a tuner or video capture card yet. Mostly will just be playing from streaming sources, Blu-Ray discs, previously ripped movie or music files, ect. On a tight budget to finish off the rest, here is what I am thinking:
- What is a good, reliable 1tb HDD for storage? Should I RAID 1 a pair to preserve the movies/music I'll have saved, or just trust a single HDD?
- What is an inexpensive, quiet CPU cooler for AM3 95w chips? Also, what are the highest flow 92mm fans that are inaudible at full speed?
- Should I consider ditching the full-blown HD6670 for a silent HD5450 for $40?
- Is there an affordable Blu-Ray combo drive that is of good quality, or should I just go for the same model Pioneer BD-R drive that I am happy with on my other units?
OR- am I so far away from having an ideal starting point with this CPU (95w) and GPU (overkill), should I just wait and do a APU build from scratch when I am ready to pickup a FM2 board and A10-5800k chip to do it right?
