If I do not want to spend a huge amount, what could be the ideal (specs for a ) mid-range desktop gaming system?

what is your price point? If you have 800+ I would get an i5 3570k and a 7850-7970.
if 700 I would get a weaker i5 and maybe a 7870 or 7850
it you have 600 I would go with an i3. Give me a precise budget and I can help make the best build with the amount you've got.

Mid range to me is more like 600-700 but I have seen some people say I wanna get an ok pc so I want to spend no more than $2000. So until he replies I wouldn't assume anything.

1000 dollars would be ideal, but you could build a decent gaming pc for 700 bucks
