2 sticks of ram for dual channel. Maybe you were already planning on that, it's hard to say. If you listed prices and a total it would make things a little easier.

Edit: Also, you may want to consider a cheaper cpu, maybe a recent pentium, dropping the optical drive and going with a slightly cheaper case. Could give you enough room to fit a discrete gpu in there

Ah yes I forgot about dual channel. I'll fix that up. I'll add prices too and a final budget. As for dropping stuff for a discrete gpu, that is a bad idea going this cheap. The cpu is actually one of AMD's new APU's. It has great processing power and graphics power for the price. It has an HD 7660d for the onboard graphics which is outstanding at this price. The CPU part is also unlocked as you can see and from reviews online, you can go up to 4.2GHz stable with the stock cooler included. Give me a few minutes though and I'll make an edit.

This is just a build for people who want to switch over to pc gaming. Most people I have met who play pc think it is superior to console (including myself) and this pc is just for people who don't have enough money for a great pc. This will match the quality of a console, along with give people the experience to play games on a pc. I know this won't kill the next console line but It will still be just as good as the next xbox is supposed to feature an HD 6670, this has a 7660d.

There's a rumor of a Trinity 'refresh' in Jan. Less power consumption and a bit more powerful. By the time the next gen consoles come out, we'll have Kaveri APU's, which will have Steamroller cores. Kaveri is going to be amazing, especially as a PC console-killer.

Hope HDD prices come down soon. A 500GB HDD for <$50 would allow some breathing room for better components.

Dual channel is a technique used to double the communication speed between the memory controller and the RAM memory, and thus improving the system performance.

Man that would help a lot, both for Kaveri and price drop. Hope it happens.

It is $45 because you have to send in the rebate, wait a couple weeks, then get back $10 + rebates don't go on forever.

So what you're trying to say is that a stand alone gpu that is meant to be for gaming is better than an integrated chipset in an apu?

Not sure if that was sarcasm, oh well. My point is that was you could probably fit a discrete Gpu in that would give you better overall performance in games if you changed up a few things. Think I saw a 6670 for around $50

If I had to choose between buying a current console and this pc, I'd be picking the console. Not only is it cheaper, but if a game comes out for it you're going to be able to run it. Your build is also missing, like you stated, the OS and input devices, while a a console would have them included.

yeah, if you can find the A8 for the same price I'd probably do that. Or maybe a phenom II, the 955s are getting pretty cheap. Lots to consider

Alright since you don't like this build very much then throw one together with equal processing power and gaming capability. While it would be better to go with something like a phenom ii x4 955 or 965 and a 6670, there simply isn't enough moving around we can do in a $400 budget without one area of it just going to crap. You could cheap out on the case but that would go with punishment in either area of constricted airflow, cheaply made material that heats up fast, or horrible cable management. You could try the RAM but this is the bare minimum you would want to do with an APU. Even if you do try to throw in those parts by skimping out on the RAM and such, you would probably end up having to go with either single channel 4gb 1333 or something like 2gb of ram which is not good at all for gaming. You wouldn't want to go any lower with the wattage on the PSU because there could be an energy spike in a game and the PSU would surge because it would exceed the maximum wattage. Plus that is pretty cheap for a PSU which is bronze certified. The only thing you could do with the storage would be to get less since this is fast for an HDD which you really don't want to give up speed with only 500gb. The buyer would more than likely get tired of waiting and find something else to do. As you can see there isn't much room to spare in an already cheap build like this. I do agree with you that a 6670 is better but you simply cant fit it into a $400 budget while still trying to maintain processing power like is in this one.
