I have recently got a new TV, it's a Samsung HDTV enabled, DTV
technology, 42-inch.... However the ethernet lines that run nearby and a
hub in the vincinity often seem to loose their connection temporarily.

Is there a connection between the two? Or not?

It can be...if u read the fcc certification it should be a class B device
and must accept interfearance from other devices.
