Dual monitors - One VGA the other HDMI

Hi, I have one monitor hooked up via VGA, the other is by HDMI. When I start up my computer, they're both on up to the point of logging on to Windows. They'll both say "Starting Windows" then one goes to sleep. I know my graphics card can support dual monitors.
Is it just Windows that's the problem, or is there something else?

seems like you do not have them set up in windows....right click on your desktop and hit screen resolution...there you should see both of the screens that are plugged in...you gotta tell windows to extend the desktop to the second display or clone the second display...out of curiosity what video card do you have?
