Need Mid-Level graphics Card for 3D design

So I have a fairly low end custom built PC and I want to run Autodesk programs on it. Specifically 3ds MAX and Maya. I'm currently using the onboard graphics from my motherboard which has a fairly high quality display but cant handle the grunt work from these programs. I'm hoping to stay under $100 if possible but I'm also not creating huge scenes for the most part so I dont need anything really high end. I know very little about graphics cards so I cant figure out which features I should be focusing on since my goal isn't gaming.

I have a DG43NB motherboard and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I know I have enough Power to use the cards in this range and my RAM is the same as the programs recommend.

512 Mb is the minimum requirement for the program
1 GB is recommended

If anyone has a specific card to recommend that would be helpful but I'm very interested in what specific specs and features I should focus on while looking to buy.

Thanks very much for any help anyone can provide.
