Guts of my rig:
Mobo: ASUS M4A88T-V EVO (3gb/s)
CPU: Phenom 955 BE 4.0ghz OC
Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus
GPU: GTX 670 Windforce OC
HDD: 1tb 7200rpm
SSD: 60gb Crucial
Case: Corsair 400R
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular

Hey all,

I'm so stuck on this topic right now. Tiger direct has the I5-3570k going for 199 right now and I'm tempted to upgrade but am wondering if it's worthwhile. My mobo is of pretty low quality and it's annoyingly only 3gb/s so I'm not to concerned about upgrading that. I also plan to SLI my 670 in about a year.

Should I make the switch? or try my hardest to wait for haswell?

Thanks

If you can't wait just buy the i5, personally i'd buy a new am3+ mobo and stick the 955 in that wait for steamroller and get that, like i said depends if you can wait and if you want to stick with amd or not.

lol I just upgraded to a 3570k from the 955 BE and can say that it's much faster. If you plan on waiting you might as well wait for amd to release their next option. With the next consoles have so many cores, games will be able to take advantage of AMD processors more. Otherwise just pick up the 3570.

Glad to hear you've seen a boost. And I've been thinking about that as well... I don't want to buy an I-5 and then suddenly all the next gen games play better on an FX-8350 :/

It looks like amd will have an advantage, but you never know. Mabye intel will pay off devs and have them optimize their compilers for intel.(even more) What we already know is that cryis 3 works better on a FX-350 so that is a decent inclination to where it is headed.

If you can just wait. Not like any games should be stressing your build much unless you game at UHD resolutions. There is a good chance that PC part prices will drop right before the next consoles to encourage people to buy. Not to mention both graphics vendors will have their next gen. cards out at that time too.

I'm still rocking my Sapphire 5850 vaporX and it's amazing. SuperOCed can run ultra high skyrim at 2048x1080, 60 fps. Although with an extreme enb profile, 30-40 fps.(superbEnb)

Not true.

AMD FX 8350 doesn't even surpass i5-3570k at stock, when it's overclocked to 4,7 GHz. :)

i made the same upgrade when my am3 mobo went out (3570k+mobo for $240 from microcenter) and the upgrade in performance doesn't justify the price you would pay in my opinion. its your money so do as you please but if i was in your situation i would hold out for the next gen CPUs.
