No signal after installing new graphics card

hello i recently bought a new graphics card for my computer, but after installing it into the computer when i turn the computer on the screen just displays the message "no signal" and goes to standby mode. there are no beeps on start up and i can here windows start up. any help would be greatly appreciated


i have a:
computer: dell inspiron 560
OS: windows 7 64 bit.
processor: pentium dual-core e5500 2.80GHz 2.9GHz
ram: 4 gig
graphic card: MSI N460GTX-M2D768D5
power supply 500w

-Does your power supply have 2x6pin PCI-E power supply cables and if so, did you connect it to the graphic card ?
-Have you check in the BIOS whether your discreet PCI-E channel is enabled ?
-Do you connect the monitor to the new graphic card ?

- no and how do i do that (explain slowly)
- yes i have tried to connect the monitor to the card, still no signal
