Stock the 660 outperforms the 7850 in most instances, however with the recent price drops you might want to consider the 7950. Matches or beats the 660 easily stock and overclocks very well to easily beat the 660 and keep up with the 670/680.

I would say get the HD7850. Its the current king of the mid-range IMO, and who knows when the 660 will be released. Might as well enjoy good graphics now instead of waiting for a card that may/may not be better at a probably higher price.

Just realized the GTX660 has been released.
Wow, Nvidia did that pretty quietly.

Wait for it, so you won't regret.

7850 are up sale in the $210 range and the 660 non ti is rumored to sale at $250 price tag. At that price tag you may consider the 7870 too. Because the 7870 also comes in this range. The 660 Ti performs between 7950 and the 7870, so 660 should perform between the 7850 and the 7870. This would make you think that you will get the 7870 straight away, but hey, maybe the 660 is going to sale at the $200 price tag? Who knows.

I derped...
I saw this article and thought it had been released at retail.

Quick check of Newegg has dismissed that theory. OEM cards must just be models for benchmarking sites or something.

Previous opinion is now active, get the HD7850.

I procured a few 660ti's for friends a day after their release.....all the friends have sold or are still selling them, the verdict is not that good, its a mishy mashy ugly thing with rattling parts, fast yes but the 192Bit interface kills it.

7850, hmm honestly for $30 extra you can pick up the new refined 7950 GHz Edition cards which will run very well with a GTX 670.

GTX 660ti is out already but honestly it feels like a skimp job.

What card you need is determined by your budget and what you intend on doing and what resolution, it may be nice and all having a 7950/7870 but you may only be gaming at resolutions and settings well within the 7850's capabilities. HD 7870 is the smarter choice longevity wise, or between a 7950 and 660 the 7950 all the way.

here.....
7850 = 343$
560ti = 325$
660ti = 470$

so for 660 i can expect a price tag of something like 380$

for this price range should i choose 660 or 7850

No idea what you're smoking but the GTX 660 ti is designed that way. the only difference between the 660 ti and 670 is the memory interface (the chip is the same chip and board is basically the same) otherwise they'll have the same card for $100 less...

it's $300 (25% cheaper than GTX 670) for 10-20% lower performance which is pretty damn good... and can be oced easily to almost match a stock GTX 670's performance.

and GTX 670 is still a step above the 7950. (7950's performance is like between 660 ti (for pretty much the same price now after the price drop) and 670)

and beastwolf. I'd wait a couple of days to see if the price cut here carries over to where you're living. the prices of the AMD cards literally dropped by $30 across the board today...
