Hey guys I just finished popping in my new Visiontek 7970 on my I5 2500k powered pc and ran Arkham City with the expectations to blow it out of the water (max settings). It turns out it struggles with the game, its fps is low and it hiccups every 4 seconds.... what gives!? My 560ti ran this game better!

Solution
Well arkham city is a terrible game regarding performance, I've a gtx 680 and it's supposed to run around 60 fps even 80, but in the reality it jumps from 80 to 40, even 30 fps making the game unplayable. I'd say maybe it's because the nvidia's driver you were using back there was more friendly to AC than your current ati driver. My advise, forget AC , there are a lot of better games around that will make your 7970 shine. Regards

I run 680's in SLI, though I do play the game in 3D Vision, and max settings isn't really possible. I was recommended to run it in DX9 mode without PhysX, in which case the game runs well. No single card, except maybe a 690, can run that game maxed. A single 7970 in normal 2D is about the power of 2 680's in SLI using 3D Vision.

Sounds like a driver problem.... I can run everything maxed on my 7970 in arkham city, except physx (runs ok on physx using the cpu vs a dedicated card) and all is glass smooth. Quite insane looking actually, beautiful game.

Its the game problem. You have to disable physx and disable directx 11 to get normal FPS. Game is badly programmed. High end GPU's get massive fps drops with physx on and with directx 11.

Yes, it is possible that the game is better geared to Nvidia cards and that its not the best programmed game out there; but certainly a card that cost this much has to at least run the latest games at a playable fps.

Something else is going on here.... its not a driver problem, since I've updated to the latest driver (12.8) beforehand. I really like this game and any further help would really be appreciated, thank you.

No the game is just bad. It lags just as much on my GTX 670 as on your 7970. It is the game which is badly programmed. Turn PhysX off and also directx11 and you should be able to play it.

Did as you said and turned of DX11/Tesselation and had an instant boost of 35 fps and dimished all hiccups. Thanks alot, its unfortunate that DX11 drives the game to heck, but this will just have to do.
