My girlfriend has an Emachine e-slate 400 notebook on which the HD just failed. I have changed or added a second HD to many PC's, but I don't have much knowledge of notebooks. My question is, must the HD be replaced with a like HD or is there such thing as a standard IDE HD such as a PC has. It has a 4.3 GB HD now, and I am not looking to increase the size...I just want to get it running again. Also, if anyone knows of a good place to buy a notebook HD. Thanks for any help you can give.

Notebook hard drives are somewhat easy to replace. Finding one cheap is going to be your problem. I would look at Toshiba, Fujitsu, or IBM for a laptop drive.

Any internal desktop hard drive isn't going to fit in the Laptop case. I mean if you had a working internal hard drive and you were only looking for storage space then an External USB/1394 drive would be perfect!

Hope that gives you some idea ....
