Hello there, here goes my specs

AMD Phenom II X4 925
BIOSTAR Group TA790GX A3+
8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Zalman 600W

I'm thinking about a CPU upgrade, but i'm on a budget so i should try to upgrade only the cpu. What do you guys suggests ?

Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition or maybe the AMD FX-4300 (not sure if my motherboard would handle it).

There really is no need for you to upgrade your CPU.
By overclocking you can easily surpass the performance of the Phenom II X4 965, and far exceed the performance of the FX 4300.
Just buy a good, high end CPU cooler and follow the guide.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

The easiest thing you could do in terms of overclocking is to increase the reference clock from 200 to 240, while lowering the RAM speed from 667 to 533mhz.
This will give you a 20% speed bump iwthout any instability and you won't even need a cooler for it.

Ty for the tip.

I've never done an overclock before, not very fond of it. But since i'm on a budget i'll search about it. Maybe is a good way to go.

I'd like to hear about others as well, what you guys think ?
