2. i3. It uses the newer LGA 1155 socket and it is faster. It can have 4 cores(2 physical, 2 virtual) aka hyperthreading.

i3-2370M? That is a laptop processor my friend, not a desktop processor.

well considering your e4500 is one of the slowest c2d ever made, any desktop cpu with i3 branding on it will be faster...

all latest i3 cpus have clockspeeds above 3GHz... (except the low power 35W 2120T at 2.6)

i3-3220 is the best cpu for gaming of the i3's. This is also a tom's hardware pick. :)

Graphics cards can indeed be affected if your CPU is not up to par.

If for instance you tried to pair a GTX 680 with your i3, you'd experience

Severe "bottlenecking" and bottlenecking reduces performance massively.

This would be due to the CPU not being fast enough to cope with the GPU.

Generally speaking, it's important to put together a balanced set of components.
