Advent 5511

Hello,
I'm having issues running my Advent 5511 laptop. When I turn it on (plugged into a charger on the wall (the battery has gone in it and is physically absent)) it begins to start up, makes a small noise then shuts down. Nothing ever appears on the monitor so I can't do anything with it... which leads me to believe it's a hardware issue.

Which part do you think is compromised? I'm willing to get a new part and fix it, I just need to know which one to do it with.

Just to clarify:

I'm using an Advent laptop, 5511 Series.

I removed the battery as it no longer works.

It should still run if plugged into a wall but it does not.

I think there is a hardware issue but I don't know which part would shut down the system immediately.

All I want to know is which part of the laptop would cause this to happen.

I had a similiar problem - it turned out to be the backup CMOS battery!
