Laptop RAM not being detected

Hello, I have an HP Pavilion Dv6 3025dx that I use for school. I made sure what the max. amount of RAM is for this laptop (8GB) and installed those 8GB. I am running 64bit Windows 7, but all of my system checking software say that I have 6GB of RAM. I tried switching the positions the two RAM sticks, and I still get the same results. Is one of the sticks bad?

  1. could be. Run Memtest. http://www.memtest86.com/.
may have to run the sticks separate to determine which is bad. Follow the directions for memtest (need to create a bootable device per instructions). Did you check the memory to make sure it is a supported. Here is a link to HP's memory upgrade procedures.
