Hi everyone, my Q6600 never reaches 100% load when playing games, the games that I'm currently playing are L.A. Noire (plays a little choppy on high/med DX11 settings and CPU sits around 40-55%) BF3 (High settings plays smooth and CPU is around 50-60%) Walking Dogs (High settings plays smooth 50-60% CPU usage) I got these percentage readings from my Logitech G15 keyboard, I compared it to the task manager and the CPU percentage reading is pretty accurate. I'm just wondering if this is normal, I used to have a X6800 OC'ed to 3.4GHz and would always be on 100% load when playing games, and my Q6600 is OC'ed to 2.8 GHz. Thanks :)

Those games probably only use 2 threads. The x6800 is a 2 core processor, so the games use 100% of both cores. Q6600 is a 4 core processor. The games can only use 100% of 2 cores. So you use 50%. You are a little over 50% because the other 2 cores are being used for some windows processes.

thanks for the reply! But the weird thing is that neither of the 4 cores reaches their maximum, they all just somewhat play in the middle.. though one of the cores maxes out during cutscenes in L.A. noire but thats it so I dont know why I lag in that game when neither of my cores maxes out during gameplay.. :??:

BF3 should use 4 cores. I have a Q9550 @ 3.2ghz and I hit 100% usage all the time. Civ5 taxes my system as well. I have a 460gtx which I play BF3 at 1440 x 900 on medium to sustain decent frames. What is your GPU and resolution?
