I have a Dell Dimension 4700 Desktop. I haven't used this in awhile. One day turned it on and the sreen turned for a moment and then turned off. After many attempts afterwards it came on but the screen didn't. I tried another monitor, but still no display. I also open the case and cleaned it out thoroughly. The DVD drive kept flashing and wouldnt open, so I disconnected still nothing. I took the battery and now I'm waiting to see if that makes a difference. Are there any answers to get the screen to come on?
Try a new signal cable to the monitor. If still no display, note the following:
The 4700 comes with either an "on board" graphics chip, or a PCI-Express graphics card, depending on which regional market it's produced for. If yours has a graphics card, it may have failed, in which case you need to replace it with a new one.
If yours doesn't have a graphics card but instead has an on board graphics chip, that may have failed. You can overcome that by fitting a PCI-Express graphics card and connecting the monitor to the new graphics card instead of connecting it to the on-board graphics connector.
