Which 7850 should I get?

Hi,

I have Dell XPS 8300 therefore I obviously suffer from capacity/PSU problems. However, I am not using anything unnecessary. If I calculated correctly I would be using just 300W with 7850 card. With my current card HD 6670 I am using around 220-260W. If I'm not mistaken my PSU has 2x6PIN connectors, below are the 2 images that I've taken a while ago:

I live in the UK so I cannot use Newegg or such similar sites. The website below seems to be a good option:

(I do not want to spend more than £200

I'd love to know which one I should get and why. XFX DD seems to be a good choice due to its cooling, however I have almost zero knowledge regarding graphics card so any kind of information would be really useful. I will be buying graphics card in 1-2 days time so please don't ask me to wait for prices to drop and get a better graphics card.

If it matters - I will be playing games such as The Secret World most likely at 1920x size.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the quality of my PSU is good because it was made by Dell and Dell are known very well for their PSUs. I've read a lot of good reviews about their PSUs. I really don't think that I'll be struggling with power, because as I've mentioned before - I am not using much power, I do not have anything "flashy" or unnecessary :)

Test Results: I was honestly surprised by the results I was able to get from this test. I knew very well how much of a power hog my other cards were, but the XFX 7850 Black Edition drew a very surprising amount of power. This is due to the 28nm fabrication process of the 7000 Series of GPUs from AMD. Using just 260 watts at full load means you could effectively run a crossfire setup of these cards on a quality 550 watt power supply.

That being said (550W crossfire) I'm pretty sure that my 460W would be enough.

your psu wouldn't be a quality one i can vouch from experience. dell makes great pcs but their psus are not to be trusted when adding new components ?

people tend to say dells psus are great, but until i can see a full spec sheet displaying rails, and all the protections that the psu has, I cannot make a judgment. the psu is usually one of the few parts in a computer that the oem will skimp out on. I dont think i've ever heard of an oem ever using a psu that was ever shipped for 80+ certification.

So no one thinks that 460W would be enough for 7850? I do not have any blu-ray drives, SSD or anything else additional. I have just a normal hard drive, mouse, keyboard & headphones.

"Chris M" who works at Dell stated that their 460W power supply is enough to handle 6950 HD and 6870 HD. These particular graphics cards draws a lot more power than 7850. The link below is a post created by Chris M to show which cards their 460W is able to handle:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/p/19442678/20088799.aspx#20088799

6950/6870 consumes ~15%-20% more power than 7850, source:

Also, it seems that this person was in the same situation as I am in now. I've sent him a PM:

If its the same exact psu as the one in that thread you linked(which I actually got best answer for, you know a picture COULD have ended this chat much quicker on the rails) then it should work(albeit it doesn't calculate in psu capacitor aging which is more relevant in not as high efficient psus since the company hasn't labeled their psu efficiencies under load)

But that means that it draws more power, right? The product that I was interested is XFX 7850 Black Edition DD - which is actually an overclocked card. So that is unfortunately for me out of the question because an OC card would draw too much power, correct? Also, since all of the XFX 7850s require 2x6pin that means that they would draw more power if I'm not mistaken so I cannot really get XFX cards, can I?

Here's the list to choose from:
http://www.scan.co.uk/search.aspx?q=7850

They are all either overclocked or require 2x6 pin connectors... What am I supposed to do? It seems to be impossible to get 7850 without upgrading my PSU... My budget is ~£200 by the way.

on that page, I would recommend getting the MSI Twin Frozr. 7850's power consumption doesnt increase alot when overclocked, generally because the voltage is left untouched. Worst case scenario, just buy the card and downlock it. GPU's are only used in full power when its receiving a load of work. All modern gpus downlock itself when its barely being used.(for instance, my sapphire 7850 OC downclocks itself to 300 when idle or light gaming like flash gaming). it doesnt use full power on boot.

Alright, let's say that my budget was 250. Would it still be the best choice to get XFX 7850 Black Edition DD with a PSU of 550W? Or should I go for another card? Speaking of getting a new PSU - I should only buy the ones that have 80 plus certification, right? Which one(s) would you recommend? Can't use newegg, because I live in the UK.

PSU Websites:

This seems like a good option (Corsair Memory 600W Builder Series CX V2 ATX):
http://www.shop.bt.com/products/corsair-memory-600w-builder-series-cx-v2-atx-psu-7JSQ.html

In the description it states that the following are included with the PSU:

Output Connector(s)
1 x power 24 pin ATX , 1 x power 8 pin EPS12V with detachable 4 pin ATX12V section , 2 x 6 pin PCI Express power , 4 x 4 PIN internal power , 6 x 15 pin Serial ATA power , 1 x 4 PIN mini-power connector

I think that I'd have everything that I need for XFX 7850 Black Edition DD, correct?
