MOBO: AsRock Z77 Extreme4 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293
POWER SUPPLY: Corsair 750W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021
MEMORY: Patriot Gamer 2 Series (8GB) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220558 (came with Mobo w/ promo, can always swap out later)

the issue:
powers on and all fans moving (case fans and heat sink fan). runs for about 5 seconds then shuts down...then powers itself back on 3 or 4 seconds later. does this over and over with no post. error code on Asrock is 55 (memory not instaleld). i tried swapping memory around and if i just put 1 stick into slot B1 it will power up without shutting down but still no post and error code d7 (no console input devices are found). all parts were bought new from newegg and amazon. i've been browsing the web trying to find a solution to no avail. i also read the sticky in these forums regarding problems and am fairly certain i covered them all. i definitely double-checked the ATX power connector and tried a few different things there but no luck.

ANY IDEAS PLEASE?!?!?!?

Your problem WILL be found by honestly working through the sticky. Don't look at it, DO it.

If you get all the way through, step by step, you will end up with the system breadboarded. If that still doesn't resolve it then you have a bad core part, either CPU or MB.

i did bud, i worked through it for hours. i do have an update though. i finally got it to load the splash screen at least and the code is now A2 which i believe means it's good. the issue is that the only way i could get it to boot is to put 1 stick of RAM into slot B2 (the last RAM slot). any other slot and/or if i add another stick it goes back to error 55. is this bad mobo slots or a bios update needed maybe?

UPDATE: flashed the bios to newest but same issues, best guess is bad mobo but any other suggestions? again, only last slot on the board (B2) works with 1 stick in, any other slot or if i add another stick it goes back to error code 55...

I really can't say yet. If you are sure the standoffs are right and there's no short behind the board, then it's the board or the memory controller on the CPU. Possibly the memory controller could be spitting out errors because it's overheating, but then I wouldn't expect only one of 4 slots to work.

So, I would guess the order of likelyhood would be MB, CPU.

so here is a new development. i tried putting 2 sticks in but in side-by-side slots instead (A2 and B2) and it boots up and reads all 8gigs of memory. So it is not that only 1 of 4 slots work, it's the dual channel that is not working apparently. Also if you try and load only one stick, only channel that last slot works. has to be a mobo short or a bad mobo i think. i requested an RMA from newegg already. i'm open to any ideas though based on this new info???
