If buying a powerful processor increase game frame rates

Hello,i'm buying an intel core i7 next month and i just want to know if it will increase framerates on games i play. because it kinda lags on some games.

my current specs:
amd athlon x3 455
HD7770 1gb
2gb ram

i will also upgrade my ram to 8gb.

will it improve my games ?

If your CPU is at 100% usage when you get the FPS drops then yes but most games will be limited by the 7770 (all games if you get an i7) or the 2Gb RAM. If you are upgrading just for gaming a new GPU & 4Gb+ RAM makes more sense maybe with a 965BE.
