So this morning I booted my PC up to find my http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103089 in the final throes of death. I've figured out it's a problem with the fans, which is apparently fairly common. I havent, however, ever had to replace either.

My question is, should I simply replace the whole unit, or just get a couple fans to get it back in working order? If I should simply get fans, how do I choose ones that are much quieter than the stock ones but still as powerful/more powerful?

Thanks in advance.

So sorry, but I have another question.

The fans I'm replacing seem to be variable speed fans, since the replacement page shows them as 800-200 rpms. Does that limit me to variable speed fans to replace them, or is that an issue?

Also looking at replacing all of my case fans while I'm at it, and while looking for 200mm case fans I found one I liked and was going to grab 3, but the dimensions for the new fan are 200x200x25 and while 2 of the fans are 200x200x30 so it won't be an issue, my front intake fan is 200x200x20. I'd really like to replace it with the same fan as the others, but I'm unsure if it'll fit.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835345035 This is the 200mm fan I'm looking at.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133188 This is my case.

Sorry for so many questions, when it rains it pours, it seems ;_;

that's a lovely case, i was going to get the level 10 gts white edition, but decided against it in the end. that fan will fit just fine and it is one of the best, if not the best 200 mm fan i have found over the years.

about fan control:
3 pin fans are regulated by spin % and 4 pin fans are regulated by RPM, all fans are variable (yeah, IKR?!). it will just alter the voltage going to it to achieve a % of the fan speed as required.

No worries about the questions. if you don't ask, you won't find out!

So basically, I don't have to find a matching fan (One that has a 'variable speed' of 800-2200 RPM) to replace it? Most of the fans I see have a single RPM number, as opposed to a x-y RPM setup, I just don't wanna get a fan in there and it not work, basically :p

So if I were to get, say, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835345041 , I could use it to replace the stock fans?

The stock fan specs were:

120mmx12x25
800-2200 RPM
34.02-93.74 CFM
15-38 dBA
40,000 hours

They were in http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103089&Tpk=cooler%20master%20v6%20gt (I think I linked it earlier, but better safe than sorry :p)

That's good news about the 200mm, I'm glad I can snag all 3 instead of having to mismatch. Hopefully I won't have to trim down the fan or anything haha.

With the 3 200mm fans replace, I just have to get 3 120mm and a 140mm. Was basically hoping to get 3 of the same 120mm as well, but if the cpu cooler needs something more specific I'll have to figure something out.

my recommendation on the 120 and 140mm fans are to get the Corsair AF series fans. get 2x performance version AF120s for your cpu cooler and a quiet edition for your case, also AF140 quiet for the case. they come with 3 coloured rings (white/red/blue) that you can change to suit your look. they are only 3 pin, but they will do the job all the same.
