Help: Which CPU is the FASTEST/BEST from this list?

Hello,

I have been out of the computer building game for a while and wanted to upgrade my current computer to have the fastest available processor it can handle. I have upgraded the board to the latest BIOS, but do not know which of these processors is the FASTEST/BEST processor to buy.

The Phenom II x4 945.

However, that processors costs £40 more (£150) than a superior motherboard and CPU. I say upgrade to an AM3+ motherboard, and plop in a 965 BE.

^ This is correct but there are 2 different models of the Phenom II 945. There are both 95w and 125w versions of this processor. Your board only supports the 95w version.

^ +1 The phenom 2 x4 945 95w, the good thing is your mobo has an 8 phase power design as well, so you should be able to overclock it to 4ghz with a good aftermarket cpu cooler.


If you can get it cheap like on ebay or whatever go for it. Its still a very capable cpu.


However if they try to fleece you, just upgrade your motherboard/cpu/memory.

Hmmmm these processors are quite old at this point. I would recommend you instead go for a more modern family of motherboards which support much faster CPU's such as the z77 or AM3+ family.
