Okay, there probably have been many posts on this, but i am still mad about my Pioneer 106s dvd-rom dying on me. So what should i get next? I still want a 16x drive..so any suggestions and explanations would be very much apreciated

Lite-On LTD-163 is getting very good reviews. Cheaper than the 106s, faster read time, and better DAE. Get it at Newegg for 56$ (includes shipping). Comes w/PowerDVD too, can't see any way to beat that deal.

The suggestion below is good but do you realize that DVD-ROM speed has no effect on DVD Video Playback? It's only applicable for DVD-ROM software. Anyway, 16X might help keep fast forward and rewind smooth.

It is applicable for DVD ripping, clonecd, and DAE. Some drives likes the thoshiba's won't even let you rip at full speed because they lock the speed in the firmware.

Too bad your Pioneer died : /

I have the same slot load drive, and that sucker is nice and quiet :)

I haven't had a chance to see any of the Lite On drives in action, was wondering if they're noisy.

they are very loud. and I must sy my liteon couldn't read a file off a cd that my plex could. you should probably always have two drives. the ltd-163 and a plex is good.
