Hey guys,

I'm buying a new Dell XPS 8500 and I'm wondering if it's worth $100 to upgrade from the GeForce GT 640 1GB GDDR5, to the AMD Radeon HD 7770 2GB GDDR5.

I plan to do some 3d modeling/rendering with Maya and 3ds max. But mostly I will be using this for photo editing and casual gaming.

Im aware the Radeon has significantly better benchmark scores, I'm just looking for some second opinions

If I were you I would def get the 7770...in gaming it will be like night and day difference....now if you really do not game at all it would probably not be worth it but since you said you gamed casually you will prolly want to get it...if you went the 640 route you may be disappointed in the long run and upgrade to another card anyways.

7770 is a much nicer card for gamin. It sucks they want $100 because the actual price difference between the two cards is more like $30-$40. You could buy the 7770 after the purchase and sell or keep the 640 as a spare.
