i have a 6850 and it runs every game i play, very well. i currently play at 1360x768 resolution on a 32inch samsung tv (supports 1920x1080) but when i put the resolution to 1920x1080 nothing happens to performace or games, only thing that happens is the picture quality gets worse such as bad color and hard to read text. any information on this?

tl;dr, 1360x728 is better than 1920x1080 on my screen

Honestly it sounds like the TV does in fact NOT support 1080p, that being said are you 100% sure it does or just kind of guessing? Some things to try:

1. Use a different cable with the same interface (new HDMI cable for HDMI input)
2. Try and use a totally different interface if at all possible (DVI or VGA if the TV supports it)
3. Update or rollback your video drivers

I have heard before that some TV's that say they are 1080p do not actually have the needed amount of pixels for true 1080p resolution, so one more thing that you could do is poop out a custom res with the catalyst control center or a third party program.

Hope this helps, have a great day!

as dudemcduerson points out, the native resolution of your TV is 1360x768, not 1080p and will overscan (or underscan? i'm always confused about that term) to that resolution resulting in a poor quality image.

only way you could get a crisp beautiful 1080p image is to get a full 1080p TV/monitor. otherwise, stick to it's native resolution if the image looks bad enough to hurt your eyes.

It may support 1080i which my TV does as well, but it is a native 1366 X768, so the image gets distorted and ugly.

my tv is 1920x1080 full HD @60hz, my xbox plays at 1920x1080 and it also says in the users guide manual, wheni use 1920x1080 resolution, the image looks sharp and bright and quite pizelated

When you said you set it to 1080p, did you change the resolution in the game, or did you change modes of the TV? You may be seeing some fort of up scaling. Because the performance didn't change, that sounds as if the game is still set to run at the original resolution, and the TV is doing an up scale, which does look poor.

On a 32 inch TV the difference between 720P and 1080P will be difficult to actually see. This is because the pixels are already very small. On a bigger TV the pixels are larger and therefore the image will look more "jagged." Your graphics card should be able to perform exceptionally well at 1366 x 768 for many years to come. If you must have 1080P the only thing you can do is to buy a better monitor.

The reason things look worse at 1920 x 1080 is because your TV can only run that resolution in interlaced mode. In interlaced mode only 30 frames are shown on the screen at any given time. That will make things look a bit fuzzy when there is movement on the screen.
