I have upgraded my 5-year-old laptop to Windows 8 RP just in time for school, and so far it's been flawless. My one major issue however is as follows:
My Metro UI/Windows Desktop performance is often choppy as hell. In both Windows Vista and 7, I was able to use the old-school RivaTuner software to disable nVidia's GPU automatic 2D downlocking process called "powermizer" that is built into the 8600m GT drivers, and force it to use 3d graphics settings at all times. This would always solve the problem. However, RivaTuner, not surprisingly, cannot even detect my drivers in Windows 8. Is there another program that will let me force my GPU into high-performance mode even when idling at my desktop?
PS yes I know it's bad for battery life, but I don't need very much battery life. When I am using my laptop at school I'm plugged in at the library usually.
